How Gorman & Company Signed Up for $800K of FREE EV Chargers

Gorman & Company, one of the nation’s top affordable housing developers, seized a unique opportunity to install $800,000 worth of EV chargers across four of their properties—all at no cost, thanks to a utility incentive program. At first, there were questions: would their tenants, many of whom might not drive EVs yet, see the immediate benefit? But Gorman saw the bigger picture. They recognized that installing these chargers would be a game-changer, not only enhancing property value but also setting the stage for economic opportunities that would impact their communities for years to come.

With our team handling every detail—from sourcing to installation—Gorman’s experience was seamless. They embraced the potential these EV chargers could offer, knowing that while few residents might own electric vehicles now, the trend was shifting fast. These chargers would make Gorman’s properties more appealing, even to future tenants who prioritize sustainability and advanced amenities. And for today’s residents, they’d create a ripple effect of new possibilities: access to shared EVs, gig economy options, and jobs in the growing green sector.

More than an upgrade, this move signaled a commitment to innovation and community investment. Gorman understood that the program’s incentives wouldn’t last forever, and delaying could mean missing out on the chance to equip their properties for a new era of sustainable, economically resilient communities. They knew that EV chargers weren’t just for the here and now—they were an asset that would grow in value as the shift to electric vehicles accelerated.

Today, Gorman & Company’s decision to embrace the future stands as a bold example for the affordable housing industry. By taking advantage of utility program incentives, they’ve set a new standard in community enrichment, proving that forward-thinking developers can make a lasting impact on residents’ lives, their properties, and the planet.

FAQs

My tenants can’t afford EVs; why should I install an EV charging system?

With used, reliable, low-mileage EVs like the Chevy Bolt now available for around $10,000, electric vehicles are becoming accessible to more people. These vehicles are ideal for rideshare and gig economy work, providing tenants with additional income opportunities and preparing your property for future EV demand. Plus, EV chargers attract eco-conscious tenants and can increase property value at no upfront cost through available incentives.

Can Buzze help my tenants find rebates to buy an EV?

Yes! Buzze provides incentive search assistance to your tenants considering EVs. We offer resources on available rebates, tax credits, and state or federal incentives that can help make EV ownership more affordable. Our goal is to make the transition to EVs as smooth as possible for both property owners and tenants.

My property managers don’t have time to manage an EV charging system; wouldn’t it be a burden?

Buzze remotely monitors the chargers 24/7 and provides onsite training for your maintenance team, so they’re familiar with the system. Plus, we have local EV-certified technicians on standby to handle any issues, ensuring that your property managers won’t be burdened with additional responsibilities.

How much will this cost my property?

Buzze always aims to install EV charging systems at little to no out-of-pocket cost for Affordable Housing ownership. Through various incentive programs, we work to secure funding that covers up to 100% of installation costs.

Will EV charging increase my operating expenses?

Buzze factors in your property’s exact energy plan to ensure seamless cost management. The property owner will always recoup the cost of power from each charge, plus earn an additional $0.10 per kWh, making the chargers a profit-generating amenity rather than an expense.

How will EV charging benefit my tenants in affordable housing?

EV chargers provide new income opportunities for tenants who want to use electric vehicles for ridesharing, meal delivery, or other gig work. Plus, with the growing trend toward green transportation, EV chargers make your property more appealing and future-ready.

What support does Buzze offer after a charging system is installed?

Buzze provides full-service support, including a dedicated team to manage troubleshooting and maintenance. Our admin panel gives you real-time insights if you need them, but we’re here to handle all day-to-day operations and support directly.

How does installing an EV charging system impact my property’s value?

Adding EV chargers can significantly increase the market value of your property. As more cities implement sustainability standards and green amenities become a priority for renters, properties with EV charging systems are set to benefit from increased demand and tenant satisfaction.

What if my residents don’t use EV charging right away?

EV adoption is steadily increasing, and offering EV chargers now positions your property for future demand. Plus, the installation is often covered by incentives, meaning there’s no cost burden to you, and the chargers can attract new tenants interested in sustainable living.

How long does installation take, and will it disrupt my tenants?

Buzze ensures that installation is as seamless as possible, with minimal disruption to residents. Our team coordinates with property managers to ensure work is done efficiently and at convenient times for your community.

Who do you work with?

Buzze partners with leading affordable housing developers and property management firms, including Gorman & Company, Delwest Management, and Asset Living, among others. Our trusted relationships in the industry enable us to deliver tailored EV charging solutions that meet the unique needs of multifamily communities.
